You don’t serve God because of the reward that you will receive because of it. You serve God because it’s the right thing to do. One of the most important truths that we need to realize as sinful mortals is that the blessings and benefits that God bestows upon us are not our wages, but are of his grace.

Romans 1:18-32 – Why We Desperately Need the Gospel: The Wrath of God Revealed From Heaven

There are sixteen chapters in Paul’s Epistle to the Romans, in which he sets out to “preach the good news” (1:15). Yet he spends the greater part of the first three chapters to explain why we desperately need the gospel. No sinner may read the first three chapters of Romans without feeling deeply offended, guilty, or both. By the time Paul is finished, the entire human race (regardless of distinct ethnicity, moral values, religion, or culture) stands condemned under God’s righteous judgment against sin.
